More and more research studies have concluded that a restricted calorie intake in one’s diet slows the ageing process and its accompanying symptoms. In fact, it may lead to a long life and can be a hopeful health scheme. Oprah had even made this a topic on her show to share the advocacy on calorie restriction. Calorie restriction means slow metabolism, which means slower aging.
Research on this subject started more than 60 years ago. Experimented on mice and rats, calorie restriction showed a slower ageing process. One hypothesis accounted for a decreased level of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3). A decreased level of this hormone slows down metabolism and the ageing of tissues.
A more recent study conducted by Rejuvenation Research in the second quarter of 2008 revealed that a calorie-restricted diet has an identical biological impression in humans, thereby making the aging process proceed in a slow motion.
The next step of their research is to determine whether the slowed- ageing effect of calorie restriction can also slow down age-related tissue deterioration. Other health benefits of having restriction in calories in one’s diet include:
1. Reduction on risks of cancer
2. Reduction on risks of Type 2 Diabetes and may even decrease the need for medication
3. Reduction on risks of heart diseases
4. Alleviation on symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease
5. Weight loss
6. Elimination of low-level inflammation caused by oxidation damage
SIRT1, a protein that influences various functions such as metabolism and ageing, activates protein-like alpha-secretase that in turn suppresses beta-amyloid buildup.
Several diabetic patients who shifted from a low-fat diet to a low-carbohydrate diet for seven quarters manifested improvement in their hemoglobin A1C, the marker for blood sugar level in diabetes.
A warning has been given though to people who lose weight due to restricted calorie diet. Should they stop having restrictions on their diet, chances of gaining weight are inevitable.
Now you want to live longer, look younger, and be healthy, right?

CRP is a good determinant to ascertain our risk for heart diseases. With this test the person is caution to change lifestyle early on even without experiencing the symptoms of heart diseases such as HPN or Angina. But, whether our CRP is tested or not we should develop a healthy lifestyle now since most of the patients we encounter in the area now are young adults related to heart diseases. An ounce of prevention is more important than a pound of cure.
Very exciting. At the very least, this could help to offer a “dashboard” of sorts to those of us that would like to keep a real time constant eye on what's going on inside of us. Say you were on a calorie restriction diet or wanted to monitor cellular physiological changes or whatever that result from a change in diet or exercise; very useful stuff indeed.
Ramdev is liar, yoga doesn’t cure heart diseases. His follower and yoga practitioner Rajiv Dixit died of heart disease.

Okinawans also were thin and the centenarians remained slim all their life. They ate a good diet, similar to CR but not as good. You should check out my blog. Google Matts calorie restriction
I saw Dr Oz on Oprah say an espresso coffee per day was healthy … your thoughts Joy? thanks
Mostly people don't want to get sick and die. Pathogens are a substantial cause of sickness and death. They cause age-related sickness and mortality – i.e. they are part of the aging process.
the lady is kinda annoying but hurray for Dr. Sinclair and his anti-aging research
You know that makes sense about Nancy you being Blue. But Lisa??
Last time I did the Keirsey's personality test (or something like it) I was amazingly evenly spread accross all four colours/sides. With two of them being ever so slightly more dominant (I think it was green/red).
Fat. Yes, lots of thoughts about that lately, having a hard time adjusting as my mom is staying over and she really should follow a low fat diet.
I have written many “moons ago” about the need to change the nomenclature of Type 2 Diabetes to Insulin Resistant Disease (IRD). So long as the word Diabetes exists and is non-differentiated, the average “Lemming” as well as Physician and News Media Person will think that it all refers to Type 2 Diabetes(IRD). The two are completely different in treatment, etiology and prognosis. Since most people are lazy and are unable think for themselves, they will assume that all subject matter relates to Type 2 Diabetes(IRD). The American Diabetes Association, btw is supportive in terms of research $$ and advocacy of Insulin Resistant Disease and not T1DM. Anonymous, you would be better off in your contribution of monies to the JDRF instead of ADA.
210km on the bike this weekend and I think I’m still on the wrong side of the calorie intake ledger. Fried fetta FTW.
Health authorities all agree that if you have more insulin within your body than you need, it is the result of a high blood sugar level that cause difficulty losing weight. If you’re seriously interested in burning fat, you need to give consideration not only to what you eat but how you eat and when you eat.
Cortisol also has an intimate relationship with thyroid hormone. When it comes to the actual cellular action of thyroid hormone, cortisol is the gatekeeper of it to the cells. I know the problems with my low metabolism stem largely from low levels of cortisol which caused all of the hypoT symptoms despite adequate serum levels of thyroid hormone.
Has Judith somehow reversed the ageing process? And what a beautiful song, so honestly sung.
They are counting on the population NOT revolting with the help of maximum amounts of Fluorinated water & GM Franken foods. I recently did an experiment. I gave feral cats tap water & GM ppl food for 2 wks & the change was dramatic. They were lethargic, didn't play, they ate more, drank more water making them more hungry & thirsty, began gaining weight & were irritable. After 2 wks I changed the water back to filtered, fed them dry cat food & w/in aprx. 4 days were back to normal behaviour.
That little fruit salad looked so tasty, I tried it out. But, its way over priced for what you get, unless you use a coupon (in about a zillion women's magazines right now), and the apples are kind of rubbery. I've gotten used to eating big fresh golden delicious apples and its not the same. Not bad though considering and feels a lot less like “diet food” than the salads. I love the walnuts and am willing to deal with the calories and fat nuts involve, I just wish they'd have the options of plain non-sugared ones. The fruit is sugar, the yogurt has sugar, why do they need sugar on the nuts too? Blech.
