If we control our appetite, our weight is automatically controlled and that’s exactly what fasting will teach you – How to control your appetite.
95% of people who start dieting give up and put on weight.
This is due to being unable to control appetite – Learn to control your appetite through fasting and you succeed in healthy weight control.
Let’s look how fasting can help you lose weight.
As we have said only 5% of people who go on a diet and lose weight keep the weight off for five years or more.
What happens to the other 95%? They remain fat or get fatter.
Is it that the diets don’t work? Yes and no.
The diets work, we don’t.
We lack the discipline to control our diets and eventually slip back to old habit patterns.
There was plenty of dieting in the Bible. It was called fasting.
Fasting is simply the restriction of our usual eating.
Whether a fruit fast or a water fast or a fast from meat, or beef or sweets, fasting is a restriction of our food, a diet.
People have had the same temptations and weaknesses throughout recorded history.
Food has always been one of those weaknesses and fasting is a way to overcome the weakness for food.
The benefit of fasting is not just in weight loss.
A water fast will result in an average of 1 to 2 pounds per day of weight loss. But that is not the benefit of fasting for weight loss.
“I think that will benefit me,” you may say, especially if you are overweight. But that is not the main reason for fasting.
Fasting can actually make you fatter.
The power of fasting is not in losing weight during the fast, but in gaining control of your appetite, which is the REAL problem to healthy weight control.
During a fast, the body burns its own fat.
As the body burns fat, it eliminates toxins and cleanses itself.
First, after several days, your metabolism slows down.
The body slows its metabolism approximately 20% after several days on a fast.
Medical science describes this as a survival mechanism. If the body is not getting food, then it slows down so that it needs less food.
This way, you can live much longer with no food if your body slows down.
Second, your digestive system is cleaner.
The villi in the intestines are cleaner, the stomach lining is cleaner, and the colon is cleaner.
If the lungs are clogged, the intestines coated with filth, the colon stopped up, the blood thick and sluggish, fat surrounding the heart and in the arteries, the body is running inefficiently.
A fast simply cleans up the body.
When you combine those two elements, a cleaner more efficient body with a slower metabolism, you need less food for the same level of activity.
Food is absorbed and utilized better in a clean digestive system.
Fasting will allow you to gain control of your appetite and you will gain the power of self-control after you have completed a long fast.
You may not get the self-control that you seek on your first fast.
But, do you master anything else on your first try?
Fasting on a periodic basis allows a person to gradually gain control over their appetite and this is the key to healthy weight control.
You will find that you are not hungry when you end your fast (after three days, hunger usually abates).
You are as not hungry and have control over what you eat and that is the main benefit of fasting.
You will no longer comfort eat or eat for the sake of eating. Your appetite will be controlled and you will eat less and not be hungry and gain control over your weight.

I know we agree
“Denying or hiding fears is actually counterproductive. Haul it out, look it in the eyes and be grateful, be very grateful, when you recognise a fear in your conscious mind, because it allows you to slay that particular fire-spewing dragon.” Here be the Dragons
I like the context, I even like the closing line and the heading, what I do not like is the opening line “Fear is our greatest enemy”
I also think write well and please don't stop, people should think and talk about things that make us and others tick.
I like the topic – what is your definition of fear? (PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL)
Is it not intended as a survival mechanism to protect ourselves in all senses of word? – makes you think before you act.
PS: What is the point of agreeing?, if we can agree to disagree
Is this the most innovative albumn of the last decade? medical science is helpless in my case. What about you? Liittle leroy? One day I will play my songs to Walter in his shack in Hawaii. Not just yet. Thank me later.
Sorry, I posted your version. Here's the correct one:
Shall I put myself wholly at your mercy, without silver, without a horse, without fame, without honour? Shall I throw myself wholly upon You, without sword and shield, without food and drink, without a bed to lie on? Shall I say farewell to my beautiful land, placing myself under Your yoke?
Feel free to delete both of these comments. I just wanted you to know about the inaccuracies.
We are really getting fat! Something hit me like a brick last week. I want to eat fresh food, like sushi and veggies. I have never been a fast food eater, mainly because I fear that the person making my food has not washed their hands.
And after a few visits to a local taco place and getting food poisoning, I retreated back to making things fresh from home.

WINE
It’s has been well documented that moderate amounts of alcohol can raise your good cholesterol (HDL-cholesterol) and thin your blood. This is thought to be one of the primary cardiovascular benefits from wine (red and white), as well as hard liquor and beer.
Non-alcoholic phytochemicals in wine, such as flavanoids and resveratrol, act as antioxidants and prevent molecules known as “free radicals” from causing cellular damage in the body. Although some studies which have focused on the health benefits of resveratrol use much greater dosages than you’ll find in an average glass of wine, resveratrol has been shown to prevent blood clotting and plaque formation in arteries by altering lipid profiles and plasma viscosity. Findings from a recent study suggest that resveratrol can produce potent anti-thrombotic agents that can potentially improve cardiovascular health and lower the risk for coronary heart disease. In animal studies, resveratrol reduced tumor incidence by [...]

stay away from walking? walking is one of the best ways for losing weight as there is little chance of injuring yourself. All you need is 65% of your max heart rate to start burning fat. Ok you will have to walk longer than 20mins but it is still good and remember just eat cardboard and dust and you will lose weight fast.
i was going to go to the gym, especially after getting food at the movie theater. then i decided that sleeping was a better option.
these videos are great. i started a youtube vlog too because of your inspiration, hopefully it will keep me in line. even though it’s mostly a comedic route of losing weight.
We need to send more education and less food.
Coach Joe, your experience getting food for the runner in the NYC marathon makes perfect sense. Nausea and vomiting is a symptom of Hyponatremia. So when it occurs in the later stages of a marathon, ultra-marathon, or triathlon, that should be considered. Eating salty food like chips, salted nuts, or pretzels, is a good choice. The runner may not only tolerate, but actually crave such foods, which is probably the body's way of trying to correct the electrolyte imbalance.

As Archaeozoo says , “The two statements would seem to be quite different to me”. The article does suggest modern humans evolved solely from Neanderthals but my guess is that modern humans in Europe developed from some level of hybridism with incoming so-called “modern” humans.
But regarding the main thrust of the article I would say that the less food resulted from the expansion of humans into the northerly regions they had previously been unable to survive in. Their hunting pressure exterminated the large mammals and those following had to come to terms with less food.
The article: “Neandertal populations reduced as Europe’s environment became harsher, with some groups going extinct by 40,000 to 35,000 years ago”. That may be true of humans in Europe but I understand the megafauna became extinct more recently.
Moral (definition): “expressing or teaching a conception of right behavior”. This concept is only practiced when there is fear involved, wether it's fear of God (or a supreme being), authority, or the fear of being repelled, subjigated or injured mentally or physically by one's loved ones, peers, enemies or society in general. In otherwords, people practice morals as a survival mechanism, nothing more. Survival of the species trumps all.
LOL, a lot of dialogue boxes in the beginning. And +1 for Harry Potter! Regardless of method, the most important thing to do when it comes to losing weight is to realize that true change starts with the person themselves and that most of these “lose weight fast and easy” programs are complete BS! In fact, the only program I’ve ever come across that produced real results was this: bit(dot)ly/lose_the_fat

The only way for Little Chef to be acceptable to the Great British Public is:
1. Rebrand – LC as a brand is dead in the water.
2. Provide edible food and drink (i.e. not including Mr Blumethal's idiotic ideas) …
3. … at sensible prices (the last time I visited one, years ago, the prices were plain stupid for what was being provided). Their target customers are not a captive audience – we can just drive on to the next sensibly priced establishment, or take our own sarnies!

LEMONS/LIMES
Lemons and limes are both a good source of vitamin C (lemons have 4mg and limes have 19mg).
Besides preventing scurvy, vitamin C is needed to produce and maintain collagen (a protein that forms all connective tissue, including skin, bones, teeth, and tendons), protect against infections, and promote the absorption of iron. Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant that protects water-soluble substances from oxidation by being oxidized itself instead.
Lemons and limes contain other antioxidant substances and are a good source of potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron.
The health benefits of lemons and limes include helping in the…
prevention and treatment of colds, influenza, fever, sore throats, and ear infections
treatment of constipation
treatment of intestinal parasites
treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
prevention of cancers, including stomach, colon, lung, breast, skin, and mouth
prevention and treatment of high cholesterol
prevention of heart disease.
You should dilute the juice of lemons and limes with water before taking because the acid in concentrated juice can be harmful to the enamel of your teeth.
Besides getting the health benefits from lemons and limes in a nice cold glass of lemonade or limeade, you can add either to herbal teas to enhance their healing properties
OATMEAL
Health Benefits of Oatmeal:
A number of health benefits are attributed to regular intake of oatmeal. These include:
Lower blood cholesterol.
Reduced risk of heart disease.
Healthier metabolism.
Stabilized blood glucose levels.
Healthy weight control.
Normalized blood pressure.
Oatmeal has a lot of soluble fiber content. This property helps to lower cholesterol and aids weight loss. The Food and Drug Administration analysis of oatmeal, in 1997, declared that regular consumption of oatmeal not only reduced the risk of heart disease, but also contributed to a low-fat diet. The content of beta-glucan is capitalized on by athletes and those in support of weight training. Oatmeal is high in complex carbohydrates and fiber and these nutrients not only slow down the digestion process, but also keep the grey of diabetes at bay.
Oatmeal offers the body a regular dose of Vitamin B. It is also credited with being able to remove bad cholesterol and maintain the level of good cholesterol in the body. It is a proven fact that oatmeal assists weight loss and control. Research reveals that an oatmeal breakfast actually reduces the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, by controlling the blood glucose levels. Oatmeal has a larger content of soluble fiber than rice, whole wheat or corn. It aids in diet control for normalizing blood pressure. It is also rich in minerals and antioxidants.
Research reveals that oatmeal is a good source of protein and iron. It is being currently analyzed to check its role in reducing the risk of cancer. The ingredient is very easy to integrate within any meal. Oatmeal has a mild flavor and mixes readily with any other pre-mix. It is popularly had as an individual breakfast component called porridge; but it is also used to thicken soups and desserts. Oatmeal is very convenient to use. It can be prepared in a microwave or in the old fashioned way of boiling it to a molten mix on the stove-top.
One of the most versatile features of this ingredient is that it never takes more than 10 minutes to cook. It is very nourishing and the best possible taste of solids a baby can get. Athletes and their trainers credit the ingredient as a source of a lot of strength and stamina. Even by itself, oatmeal is very delicious. Since it easily takes on flavors, children could be introduced to it with little effort. Doctors around the world recommend oatmeal for longevity and good digestive health.
The vitamin B content in oatmeal is being highlighted to address the onslaught of serious health problems, such as memory impairment, cognition deficits, pernicious anemia and adrenal system disorders. Its fiber content is currently being analyzed for the role of oatmeal in reducing the onset of atherosclerosis, gallstones, diverticulosis, varicose veins, diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and colon cancer.
AVACADOS
Weight control
Contrary to popular assumptions, the avocado can be a helpful part of a successful weight-management program. It brings several advantages.
Its monounsaturated fat speeds up the basal metabolic rate, as compared with saturated fat.
Its high fat content gives a quicker feeling of satiation (“fullness”), thus helping to reduce overeating.
Its high fat content makes an overall sound diet more palatable, reducing the temptation to binge on foods high in sugars or saturated fats.
Its rich supply of vitamins and minerals also makes the diet more wholesome and satisfying and thus more conducive to overall health and to moderation in consumption.
The high fat content of most avocados (up to 90% of its calories) will make some people dubious about its positive effects on weight control. Not only does fat have over twice as many calories per unit weight as does carbohydrate or protein, but also if excess calories are consumed, the body apparently burns about three times as many calories when storing calories from carbohydrate or protein as it burns when calories from fat are stored. Recent evidence, however, suggests that calories are not the whole story for body weight, with timing of both consumption and exercise as factors and with calories from fat also a possible added handicap.
GARLIC
Garlic’s health benefits and medicinal properties have long been known (1). Garlic has long been considered a herbal “wonder drug”, with a reputation in folklore for preventing everything from the common cold and flu to the Plague! It has been used extensively in herbal medicine (phytotherapy, sometimes spelt phitotherapy). Raw garlic is used by some to treat the symptoms of acne and there is some evidence that it can assist in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.
In general, a stronger tasting clove of garlic has more sulphur content and hence more medicinal value it’s likely to have. Some people have suggested that organically grown garlic tends towards a higher sulphur level and hence greater benefit to health. In my experience it certainly tastes better so I buy organic whenever possible whether or not it’s best for my health.
Some people prefer to take garlic supplements. These pills and capsules have the advantage of avoiding garlic breath.
Modern science has shown that garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic, albeit broad-spectrum rather than targeted. The body does not appear to build up resistance to the garlic, so its positive health benefits continue over time.
ONIONS
Onion is being used for centuries not just to add flavor to foods but also for its therapeutic properties. Onion have an antibacterial and antifungal properties. Some people mixed vinegar with onion juice and apply it in their freckles and warts , it is believed that it can remove/reduce this skin problems.

GRAPEFRUIT
Grapefruit is very helpful in removing or dissolving inorganic calcium which may have formed in the cartilage of the joints, as in arthritis, as a result of an excessive consumption of devitalized white flour products. Fresh grapefruit contains organic salicylic acid, which aids in dissolving such inorganic calcium in the body.
Grapefruit can help in weight loss, since it is low in sodium, high in fat burning enzymes. Low sodium intake can help flush out excess water that is caused by high sodium food.
Grapefruit has high water content, and an increased water consumption can help increase metabolism.
Grapefruit is a rich source of Vitamin C
Grapefruit is rich in lycopene (the red color/pigment), it helps to prevent the occurance of tumor and cancer.
It is a liver tonic
Helps in cases of Gallstones
Helps in cases of Cold, Pneumonia, Fever
It is a powerful drug-poison eliminator
Helps in proper digestion of food
Can help improve complexion
Grapefruit is a natural antiseptic for wounds when used externaL
Weight Loss Benefits of Eating Grapefruit
Eating grapefruit can benefit weight loss in many ways. They are low in calories, low in sodium, high in potassium and high in fat burning enzymes. These can benefit weight loss in different ways. The low calories means we can eat grapefruit freely without consuming too many calories. A low sodium intake helps flush away excess water weight caused from high sodium foods. And, the enzymes present in grapefruit help increase fat burning.
Another positive benefit of eating grapefruit is the high water content. Grapefruits are almost 90 percent water. Eating any fruit with a high water content helps boost water ingestion and research has shown that increasing water consumption can give more energy and help increaSe the metabolism. Many people are discovering the benefits of eating high water foods like grapefruit and many other fruits for help in losing weight.
TOMATOES
Tomatoes are a member of the deadly nightshade family, and as such were considered toxic, causing many conditions like appendicitis, “brain fever” and cancer. In fact, they may have just the opposite effect. Tomatoes were not even eaten in the US until the early 1800s, when an eccentric New Jersey gentleman Colonel Robert Gibbon Johnson brought them back from a trip overseas. Always one to take advantage of a dramatic opportunity, he announced an amazing display of courage would take place on September 26, 1820. He shocked his hometown of Salem by consuming and entire basket of tomatoes in front of a crowd of spectators, expecting him to keel over any second. Obviously, he didn’t and since then tomatoes have been a staple of the American diet and with good reason.
Starting with the basics, tomatoes contain large amounts of vitamin C, providing 40 percent of the daily value (DV). They also contain 15 percent DV of vitamin A, 8 percent DV of potassium, and 7 percent of the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of iron for women and 10 percent RDA for men.
The red pigment contained in tomatoes is called lycopene. This compound appears to act as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that can damage cells in the body. Only recently, studies have revealed that lycopene may have twice the punch of another well-known antioxidant betacarotene. Studies conducted by Harvard researchers have discovered that men who consumed 10 servings of tomatoes a week, or the equivalent to 10 slices of pizza, can cut the risk of developing prostate cancer by a formidable 45 percent. However, its benefits are not limited to the prostate. Italian researchers have found that those who consume more that 7 servings of raw tomatoes lower the risk of developing rectal colon or stomach cancers by 60 percent. Israeli researchers have found that lycopene is a powerful inhibitor of lung, breast, and endometrial cancer cells. Research has also indicated that the lycopene in tomatoes can help older people stay active longer.
MUSHROOMS
The health benefits of mushroom include the following:
Cholesterol Levels: Mushrooms themselves provide you with lean proteins as they have zero cholesterol, fats and very low carbohydrates. The fiber and certain enzymes in them also help lower cholesterol level. Moreover, the high lean protein content in mushrooms helps burn cholesterol when they are digested.
Breast Cancer & Prostrate Cancer: Mushrooms are very effective in preventing cancer of breast and prostrate due to presence of Beta-Glucans and conjugated Linoleic Acid having anti carcinogenic effects. Out of these two, linoleic acid is particularly helpful in suppressing effects of estrogen. This estrogen is the prime reason for breast cancer in women after menopause. The Beta-Glucans, on the other hand, inhibit growth of cancerous cells in cases of prostrate cancer. Selenium in mushrooms is very effective in inhibiting cancerous cells.
Diabetes: Mushrooms can be an ideal low energy diet for diabetics. They have no fats, no cholesterol, very low carbohydrates, high proteins, vitamins and minerals, a lot of water and fiber. Moreover, they contain natural insulin and enzymes which help breaking down of sugar or starch of the food. Again, they are known to contain certain compounds which help proper functioning of liver, pancreas and the other endocrinal glands, thereby promoting formation of insulin and its proper flow. Diabetics often suffer from infections, particularly in their limbs, which tend to continue for long. The natural antibiotics in mushrooms can help protect them from this dreaded situation too.
Immunity: Ergothioneine, a powerful anti oxidant present in mushrooms is very effective in giving protection from free radicals as well as boosting up immunity. Mushrooms contain natural antibiotics (similar to penicillin, which itself is extracted from mushrooms) which inhibit microbial and other fungal infections. They also help heal ulcers and ulcerous wounds and protect them from infections. A good combination of vitamins A, B-Complex and C, found in mushrooms also strengthens immune system.
Weight Loss: Would you believe me if I say that a totally lean protein diet is ideal for losing fat and building muscle mass? Perhaps no! But it is true. A lot of fats are burnt to digest (break-down) proteins in the food, more so when the protein is accompanied by a very low carbohydrate, zero fats and cholesterol and a good amount of fiber. This is exactly what mushrooms offer.
Other Benefits: Mushrooms are the only vegetable and the second known source (after cod liver oil) to contain vitamin-D in edible form. They are rich in calcium (good for bones), iron (benefits in anemia), potassium (very good for lowering blood pressure), copper (anti bacterial) and selenium (very good for health of bones, teeth, nails, hair and as an anti oxidant). The best source of selenium is animal proteins. So, mushrooms can be the best choice for vegetarians to obtain selenium.
Few Words of Caution: Let me put it very straight without any word of condolence. Mushrooms can even kill! Most of the mushrooms are not edible, are highly poisonous and look strikingly similar to their edible counterparts. Even certain edible mushrooms can go poisonous depending upon the substance they grow on. Don’t ever try picking them up from woods unless you identify them very well. Do not trust on the unknown vendors too. Always trust sealed products from reputed companies or those which you grow yourself under controlled conditions after buying their seeds (called spawns) from trusted source. Because a single poisonous mushroom among others can send a whole lot of people to coma, induce severe poisoning symptoms, nausea, vomiting, convulsions, cramps, insanity or worst, can kill them. Avoid eating discolored mushrooms or those which are different in color than the characteristic color of their species
I LOVE this post. I've fallen into this horrible trap of constantly comparing myself to others especially after reading other healthy living blogs! I'm always thinking about how I could run another mile, lift heavier weights, eat cleaner food, eat less food, eat butter in moderation…aka drive myself CRAZY! I'm hoping to adopt your attitude in only comparing myself to myself
Thank you for the excellent post!! I've really enjoyed your blog and you are such an inspiration.
Sometimes I wonder how much an experience matters…everything seems to fade into the past with nothing left to show cept our habit patterns
WI been trying for the LONGEST to lose my baby weight. I agree with what you are saying, and i find that people will say I need to stop losing weight and that I look sick or whatever. I have had my mom say 2 me, what are u doing, throwing up? NO I work out, try 2 eat right & keep motivated. I feel best after a good workout, & a day of eating healthy. I made a journal called The Diva’s Journal For Whole Health for sale on lulu.com, to chronicle my weight loss and my natural hair journey.
Certain smells are repulsive because people who ate things like Sulpher Philes (in rotting fish) died therefore whatever genes made them attracted to it didn't get passed on. People who's genes made them disgusted survived and reproduced more, since they got less food poisoning.
is he enjoying that or fighting for survival? looks like a survival mechanism to me

Weight loss is easily obtained by simply doing some light/moderate higher-rep resistance exercises twice weekly (per muscle group) & EATING SMART. That means eating just a few hundred calories less than what your body needs daily *in nutrient packed foods*, with pretty much the only carbs you ingest coming from vegetables (& fruits). Also, AVOID all processed sugars. Doing that, you will safely, steadily & easily drop about 2-3 pounds per week, once you get your routine rolling properly.

Is former bulimic Stephanie Pratt drastically losing weight AGAIN? – Daily Mail
Why it took her 10 minutes to talk about losing weight is beyond me. But basically, you need to operate at a caloric deficit. Meaning, eat less, and do more exercise. Instead of eating 3 big meals throughout the day, eat 3-4 small meals and do cardio 4 days a week. If you are trying to lose weight, try not to consume more than 1000-1200 calories a day. It also depends on your metabolism and how fast your body burns off fat.
