Ear candling is an alternative practice that proponents believe will help remove ear wax.
How is Ear Candling Done?Ear candling requires the use of ear candles. Ear candles are made of cotton or linen that’s wound into a cone shape, soaked in wax, and then allowed to harden.
This hollow candle is inserted through a hole in a plate specially designed to collect wax, and placed into the external ear canal. The candle is lit at the opposite end.
Proponents of ear candling claim that this creates a low-level vacuum that draws ear wax and other debris out of the ear and into the hollow candle. After the procedure, a dark, waxy substance is usually left in the stub of the candle.
Many people find it to be a satisfying procedure, because they are told that the dark waxy mass they see is a combination of ear wax and debris.
Proponents of ear candling claim that it can help to remove ear wax and debris from the ear and facial sinuses. The external ear canal, however, is not continuous with the middle ear, sinuses, Eustachian tube, and nasal passages when the ear drum (tympanic membrane) is normal and intact.
Other manufacturers claim that smoke from the burning candles dries out the ear canal and stimulates the body’s natural excretion of wax and dead cells, pollen, mold, parasites, and other debris.
There is no evidence supporting these claims. Critics contend that the dark, waxy debris that remains after ear candling is waxy candle remains, not ear wax.
Possible RisksThere are some potential risks involved in ear candling:
Burns to the ear, skin, and hair from the hot wax
Obstruction of the ear canal due to wax dripping into the ear
Perforated ear drum
Is Ear Candling Necessary?
Ear wax has a protective role. It cleans and lubricates the ear, and can protect the ear canal from bacteria and fungus. The ear has a self-cleaning system that naturally removes ear wax. Most people do not require additional cleaning. However, a breakdown in this self-cleaning system can cause a condition known as cerumen impaction.
Cerumen impaction affects about 6% of the population and can cause reversible hearing loss, dizziness, and ringing in the ears. It occurs more frequently in individuals with mental retardation and in the older population. Physicians and other health care professionals are required to treat cerumen impaction.
Evidence
One study published in the journal Laryngoscope evaluated the efficacy and safety of ear candles. The researchers concluded that ear candles did not produce a vacuum. This small preliminary study with eight ears showed that ear candling didn’t result in the removal of ear wax from the ear canal and even caused candle wax to be deposited in some ears.
Regulation
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Health Canada classify ear candles as medical devices and consider the product to pose serious risk of fire, burns, and injury to the ear, surrounding skin, and hair.

Ear candling for treating ear congestion – any personal experience?
What I don’t get is those people that will walk around with ear wax in their ear just ready to fall out onto their shoulders. That’s when you use something like a washcloth to get it all out. EWE! I’ve cleaned my kids’ ears since they were babies. The dr.’s always say that their ears are so clean. Nothing wrong with using a Q-tip as long as you only use it on what you can see with the naked eye. Anything beyond that is too far. It usually helps to remove most of the cotton first.

Hey. Those stories are so cute-especially “boy cheese”. That would be a good family joke to keep around.
Grace had a perforated ear drum last year. She has so many allergy things, I don't pay attention sometimes. She said her ear hurt one day, then never mentioned it again. Next time we were at the dr., she noticed scar tissue over the perf. I guess it should be painful, because the dr said “She has scar tissue and she was never treated?!” But Grace didn't act abnormal… is Belle's ear hurting?
I have every intention of visiting you but I have just been diagnosed with bronchitis and a sinus infection and Matthew has bronchitis and a perforated ear drum because of an ear infection. Yeah, you want us around!

I feel your pain, Darlin'. Well, actually I didn't feel any physical pain, but Kelli sure did when I set her hair/face on fire one time with said ear candles while also watching TV. However, the emotional pain I experienced from setting my child on fire healed pretty quickly when I realized she'd never ask me to perform that mother chore again…
steph – in the most simplest and crudest of terms, microdermabrasion is like having your skin “sandblasted” (but with very fine and gentle sand) to remove the dead outermost surface of the skin thus cleansing the pores and eliminating dead cells.
I think it can be kinda expensive in the States but it's very affordable (1/4 the cost) down here in Argentina…which is why it seems like everyone does it.
Personally, I had some adult acne issues recently appear and it was suggested as a good non-pharmaceutical method for dealing with it.

the actual time to machine it is 94 hours and 48 minutes. It is almost 4 full days of machining. The waxy substance between the blades is most likely paraffin wax.
Agh – it's killing me that I can't find one single image of the thing I remember. Maybe it wasn't a Panasonic after all, although the style fits with other Panasonic products whose images I did find from that general era, and I still didn't see anything right when I searched without the brand name.
And so anyway, to answer your question, the screen was flat (well, as flat as a CRT tended to be) and in the base of the cone shape, which rested on its side. It didn't look that much different from other TVs, I guess, except that the back of the set was a smooth ellipsoid curve instead of being all boxy – if you imagine the nose cone of a fighter jet, you could see the screen from inside the cockpit. And it didn't roll around because it had little feet on it, underneath where they didn't spoil the line of the case much.
I can't promise that I won't keep looking for a picture to attach to this post…
The theory behind how ear candles work, is that burning the candle creates negative pressure within the candle, just like how your lungs work. Think about it: air would easily be pulled into the candle. easier than a liquid, and much easier than a solid. If you remember your science courses, the molecules of a liquid can move MUCH more freely than a solid (duh, common sense?), yet none of the liquid was sucked into the candle.
Yes, ear candles do work
They work very well to draw the impurities from your ears
I recommend for sure.

The waxy substance is called adiopocere. Adiopocere is caused by a reaction between certain bacteria and the body’s adipose (fatty) tissues This substance is a whitish-gray or brownish, greasy or waxy substance, which can cast the body in a doll-like fashion.
cool thanks, i gotta get some storage crap , lol, ear candles..well , look it up on youtube, lol.

okay so in the mean time well we wait for antibiatics or whatever it is to cure a middle ear infection wich i have and am doing for the second time in less than a month what does one do about the PAIN
This question was probably in reference to my post about humidifiers, not my Independence Day post, but here goes…
Humidifiers moisten the nasal passages and mucus making it easier for for mucus to drain or be expelled through coughing or sneezing.
Antibiotics are not always appropriate, since some illnesses are viral, not bacterial infections {antibiotics fight bacteria}. Unnecessary and over-use of antibiotics contributes to the growth of drug-resistant strains of bacteria {these strains can be deadly}.
Cough medicine is not always safe for children, and is especially unsafe for infants.
Humidified air is a safe intervention that can be done at home before visiting the doctor or ER.
I love your I Am poem. Especially the line, I have a special sensory system on my snout that helps me detect my prey by the vibrations it emits. Your word choice really creates a vivid image in the reader's mind and shows thoughtful planning. I also like how you describe the shark as the terror of the sea. I am sure so many animals have that interpretation of the shark.

When people reflexively reach for the dial or button on some electronic player, I wonder sometimes if they ever consider that what they're choosing may not be an improvement on silence. I frequently find recorded music a distraction to productive thinking. If I know the music well, I can't think of anything but the music. If I know it less well, often it's just noise, unless I really concentrate in order to understand the words or follow the music. Then I'm unproductive for sure.
I accept the fact that it's not the same for everyone. But maybe being more mindful of what is being pumped into our brains via the auditory system would be a good idea for all of us.

It's all semantics. “serpent” energy is what it is called in sanskrit because it feels like divine energy snaking its way through the nervous system, but in other cultures it is called a part of the holy spirit, a manifestations of God's energy, plato and the greek philosopher's talked about, native americans, many others. The fruits of it is like a cleansing, selflessness, Love of others, of service to others, mastery over vices/personality/carnality, etc. How is that Demonic?
I've just started working on this too. I am also slightly short-waisted, and a size larger around the hips than on top. I have pinned the pattern on my dress form, and think I can use the skirt portion as is, as it is basically a cone shape, and has some ease at the hips. Use the lining piece to check fit. For the top I will cut a size smaller around the neck and shoulders, morphing sizes at the underarm. This has the advantage of taking 1/2″ out of the length too. However, I am considering making a tunic-length muslin, as it is so difficult to do size adjustments.
The latest news on the Health Freedom front is that the FDA has ordered Ear Candles off the market! This was done several days ago, claiming this simple relaxing method is a "medical device!" This absurd and tyrannical FDA attack on a remedy which poses no threat to anyone except Big Pharma’s profits, is a disgrace to this country! WAKE UP!!!
Life is full of lessons. Today's lesson was 'Do not blow too hard at a candle when it's surrounded by hot wax' …Ooops.
For spontaneous resolution of an effusion, we perform a 5 minute procedure in the office on most adults, a myringotomy and tympanostomy tube placement. We make a small incision in the ear drum and place a small pressure equalization tube to allow aeration of the middle ear space and drainage of the fluid. The most conservative management of an effusion is medication, decongestants, nasal steroids, oral steroids, and watchful waiting as this typically resolves over 3 months.
