Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common digestive disorder characterized by abdominal pain, cramping, and changes in normal bowel function, including bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation.
As many as one in five adults in the United States has irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is a functional disorder, which means that there are no structural abnormalities seen on x-ray, endoscopy, or blood tests.
Irritable bowel syndrome is a group of symptoms you have had for at least 12 weeks in the last 12 months. It always involves abdominal pain or discomfort along with two of the following three characteristics: Pain or discomfort relieved by defecation
Change in the frequency of bowel movements
Change in the appearance of stools
Peppermint oil is widely used for irritable bowel syndrome. It is thought to reduce the abdominal pain and bloating of irritable bowel syndrome, possibly by blocking the movement of calcium into muscle cells in the intestines and easing excessive muscle contraction there. Peppermint is considered a carminative herb, which means that it is used to eliminate excess gas in the intestines.
Eight out of twelve studies on peppermint for irritable bowel syndrome have found that it is more effective than a placebo.
Although peppermint oil is available in many forms, it should only be used in enteric-coated capsules otherwise the oil can relax the lower esophageal sphincter and cause heartburn.
Peppermint oil, especially in excessive doses, may result in nausea, loss of appetite, heart problems, nervous system disorders, and lead to kidney failure and even death.
Peppermint oil should not be taken internally by children or pregnant or nursing women. Peppermint oil may interact with the drug cyclosporine (used to prevent organ transplant rejection and for rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis), so they should not be combined unless under medical supervision. Probiotics are live microbial organisms that are naturally present in the digestive tract and vagina. Sometimes referred to as “friendly” bacteria, probiotics are thought to promote health include suppressing the growth of potentially harmful bacteria, improving immune function, enhancing the protective barrier of the digestive tract, and helping to produce vitamin K.
There are over 400 species of microorganisms in the human digestive tract and the balance between beneficial bacteria and potentially harmful bacteria is important. One theory is that people with irritable bowel syndrome may have an imbalance in their normal intestinal bacteria, with an overgrowth of gas-producing bacteria.
Studies have found that probiotics may be helpful for people with irritable bowel syndrome. For example, a fairly large study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology examined the use of three different doses of Bifidobacterium infantis or a placebo in 362 women with irritable bowel syndrome. After four weeks, the B. infantis dose of 1 x 10(8) c.f.u. was found to be more effective than a placebo at reducing abdominal pain, bloating, bowel dysfunction, incomplete evacuation, straining, and gas.
There are many different probiotic strains, and some may be more effective for irritable bowel syndrome. Another study compared lactobacillus salivarius, bifidobacterium infantis, or a placebo in 77 people with irritable bowel syndrome. Only people who took B. infantis had a greater reduction in abdominal pain, bloating, and bowel movement difficulty. For more information on probiotics, read my Probiotics Fact Sheet.
Partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) is a water soluble, non-gelling fiber that may help to reduce constipation and to a lesser extent diarrhea and abdominal pain in people with irritable bowel syndrome. PHGG also appears to increase the amount of beneficial bacteria, lactobacilli and bifidobacteria in the intestines.
One study compared PHGG (5 grams per day), wheat bran (30 grams per day), and a placebo in 199 people with irritable bowel syndrome. After 12 weeks, both the PHGG and wheat bran resulted in an improvement in absominal pain and bowel habits, but the PHGG was better tolerated and preferred.
Food intolerances may play a role in irritable bowel syndrome, possibly by triggering immune responses in the gut, leading to low-grade inflammation and an imbalance of intestinal bacteria.
The most common food intolerances reported by people with irritable bowel syndrome are dairy and grains.
A trained practitioner can supervise an elimination and challenge diet. Many foods are removed from the diet for a brief period of time, then re-introduced sequentially to isolate the body’s reaction to the offending foods. Since grains are a common culprit, it is important to remember that carbohydrate digestion begins in the mouth and that chewing grains thoroughly allows amylase, the digestive enzyme present in saliva, to digest the grains.
Pancreatic enzymes have been suggested for irritable bowel syndrome symptoms that are aggravated after a fatty meal.Hypnosis, or hypnotherapy, has also been used for irritable bowel syndrome.

Hey Nige, how you doin mate? Hope all is well with yourself and your mother.I found the following on Wiki whilst looking for something to rid me of dark circles around my eyes…Vitamin K as a Beauty ProductA study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology examined the effect of applying a gel containing 2% vitamin K plus 0.1% retinol, vitamin E, and vitamin C. Fifty-seven adults with dark circles participated in the 8-week study, in which 47% of the testers noted “fair to moderate” improvement in their dark circles. The majority of testers noticed no change, but the treatment was well-tolerated.Do you know of any commercial product like this available? I sure would love to try it.

Rhodiola Rosea is the latest natural remedy to join the arsenal of natural anxiety and stress (extract grade pharmaceutical rhodiola) reducers. Rhodiola Rosea, also known as Golden Root, is a native plant of arctic Siberia. For centuries it has been used by eastern European and Asian cultures for physical endurance, work productivity, longevity, resistance to high altitude sickness, and to treat fatigue, depression, anemia, impotence, gastrointestinal ailments, infections, and nervous system disorders. The first recorded medicinal applications of rodia riza (renamed Rhodiola Rosea) was made by the Greek physician, Dioscorides, in 77 C.E. in 'De Materia Medica'. Rhodiola Rosea has been included in official Russian medicine since 1969. Despite its long history, the Western world has only recently become aware of the health benefits of Rhodiola Rosea. It has come to the attention of many natural health practitioners because of studies which tested its affects on combating anxiety and stress. [...]
“A recent symposium on CFS at the NIH in 1991 concluded that Fibromyalgia was a symptom of several disease processes, and that Fibromyalgia Syndrome was a synonym for CFS.” FM=central hyperalgesia coupled with micro-circulatory dysfunction that causes generalized hypoxia and loading of non-recyclable metabolic by products into the muscle cells (since circulation is not carrying them away.)
Hey, that mini-anemometer would come in super useful in my job. If I had a nickel for every little old lady who answered the all-important surgical question 'Have you passed gas today?' with 'I don't know, honey,' I'd be a wealthy woman. That anemometer would take some of the guesswork out of figuring out when bowel function's returned.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a miserable condition. I have struggled with it for years and it has made my life a living hell. Fasting regularly is the only thing that has given me any notable form of relief.
I am very sorry that you have had such a hard time with FPIES. I have a 7 year old with FPIES, it started at birth (milk, soy & beef FPIES diagnosed at 2 1/2). We had been to many allergist that said we needed a gastro guy. Came across Mount Sinai food allergy institute. We finally got some answers. The good news is she out grew beef & soy(at 5yrs old). Still dealing with milk, it does get easier..read all labels milk & soy have so many different names got info from FAAN. GOOD LUCK!
because that doesnt explain why our heart beats, that shows muscle contraction with myosin heads pulling across actin to contract. That itself is in a sarcomere which can be any muscle in the body.

Hi Kimberly,
The body is naturally designed to keep us healthy. That doesn't mean eradicating microbial organisms, but keeping the microbial, as well as the mineral population, in balance. Whether there has been research on this subject or not, microorganisms definitely have the ability to travel to virtually any part of the body. It is their world, and pathways that are quite small to us, can be like huge chasms to them. Each serves a purpose, and plays a role in maintaining our presence in this world. It simply makes sense when we see a rash appear after adding a nutrient such as magnesium where there had been a deficiency, or chlorine dioxide (via MMS) where there had been an anaerobic microbial overgrowth. The rash would indicate the flight of microorganisms that have an aversion to oxygen. It makes sense to me that we would experience that rapid movement as itching. I'm not attached to being “right” about it. It simply makes sense, especially in lieu of a better explanation.
Warm regards,
Adam…
What a day. Abdominal pain all day. Bleeding etc. (TMI). Very worried but hoping that it is just some severe food posioning.
Of course I would recommend our own brand of Organic Peppermint Oil from Secrets of Eden dot com. Everyone is biochemically different and thus it is impossible to predict how long it would take to “” clear your lungs ” . Feel free to call us anytime and discuss. And thank you for your interest.

Yes it does well Kidney failure does because of the fluid and depending on how much you like drink and eat…Like the fluid can’t always all be taken of leaving fluid which builds up on the stomach area.
Pure bullshit. Fischer died from kidney failure, due to his fear of medical treatment. The man was one of the most paranoid people ever. I don't argue that he was one of the greatest chess players of all time, but he wasn't all there as a person.

unfortunately I had to have this 10 days after my daughter was born. Turns out, I had extreme abdominal pain & was admitted. After an MRI, I found out I had a placenta increta. This happens when the placenta from the baby leaves behind a piece that has embedded itself in the uterine wall. I had no choice but to undergo an emergency partial hysterectomy. Im 24 and I wanted another child eventually. It was take a chance that could be fatal or have this & survive.
I need help with my prepooing oil options! Im doing this for the first time this week and I am wanting to know what oils/materials should I use? So far Im going to use honey, castor oil, herbal oil, and peppermint oil. When doing a black tea rinse also should I combine the two or do it one after the other?
Now I know what to do with all my excess GAS
I think that's probably most practical; the only slight problem then is locating the relevant bit of music to practice each time. Maybe making photocopies and filing them sensibly would be a solution to that?
I hadn't seen Chang's book before now, but I'm very glad you mentioned it; I'll be giving that a thorough read at the weekend. It's heartening to see someone try to optimise music study using maths. I hadn't realised nerve and muscle cells grow after practicing either, but that's a convincing explanation for why practice is usually easier the next day.
Thanks a lot!

Irritable Bowel Syndrome, otherwise known as IBS, has an unknown cause. Although stress, poor diet, and abnormal muscle spasms in the colon aggravate the condition all that is known is that the muscles in the intestines and colon spasm irregularly and cause abdominal cramp, bloating, nausea, and indigestion.
I have a few questions:
1. When doing a static muscle contraction squat are you locking out your knees or are you keeping them slightly bent?
2. Could you do a video demonstration of a bench press using static contration.
3. Will this sort of training develop strength for a full range of motion exercise and how much strength as a percentage will be added?
Thanks

I have abdominal pain when I lye down on my back, why is that?
hey, I recently came back from seeing a doctor, who should be looking at my test results soon. It’s my pre HRT blood test,. I totally agree that one should have medical supervision. But I am scared now of blood clots. But I will see him again in Aug, when I see my other Doctor. I really should move closer. But every step forward is good. I hope you are feeling better soon. Keep on being a trend setter

Noticed something… when posing, you obviously look at your muscle to see if it is contracting right… and then you leave your head there, and your head's shadow kills the shot… One way to insure you will be pausing long enough for us to see would be for you to take the time, once you see the muscle contraction you want, to raise you head and look at the camera… that will clear the shadow.
