Alternate Names: colonic hydrotherapy, colonic irrigation, colon irrigation
A colonic is the infusion of water into the rectum by a colon therapist to cleanse and flush out the colon.
After completing a health history form and consulting with the colon hydrotherapist, the client is asked to change into a gown and lie face up on a treatment table.
The colon therapist inserts a disposable speculum into the anus. The speculum is connected to a long disposable plastic hose connected to the colon hydrotherapy unit.
Warm, filtered water is slowly released into the colon. The water causes the muscles of the colon to contract, called peristalsis. Peristalsis “pushes” feces out through the hose to be disposed in a closed waste system.
The client and the colon therapist do not smell the feces. The therapist usually looks at the feces through the clear hose, and may comment on the color.
The client typically feels some discomfort in the abdomen during the therapy.
The colon therapist may apply light massage to the client’s abdominal area to facilitate the process.
After the session, the therapist leaves the room, and the client may sit on a toilet to pass any residual water and stools.
A typical session lasts 45 minutes to one hour.
Colonics and enemas are similar, but there are some key differences between a colonic and an enema.
People get colonics for the following reasons: To remove accumulated waste from the colonTo help prevent constipation
To improve overall health
Health professionals are divided over the use of colonics. The majority of conventional health practitioners do not feel colonics can improve overall health. They believe colonics should only be used before certain medical procedures, such as a colonoscopy, or occasionally for constipation.
Proponents of colon hydrotherapy believe that fecal matter can accumulate and harden in the colon. They believe this buildup of fecal matter may: Prevent the absorption of water and nutrients
Lead to constipation
Allow harmful colon bacteria and yeast to grow
Cause stagnant toxins to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the colon wall (called autointoxication)
Lack of fiber, excess sugar, and a diet high in red meat are believed to contribute to the problem.
One of the earliest proponents of colonics and the autointoxication theory was John Harvey Kellogg, M.D., founder of the Kellogg cereal company.
Many credit Kellogg for the popularity of colonics from the early 1900s to the 1940s among conventional physicians. Kellogg frequently lectured on colon therapy and recommended colonics for many conditions, such as depression and arthritis.
As laxatives grew in popularity, colonics became less popular. Also, the lack of published evidence on the benefits of colonics contributed to its decline.
Today, some alternative practitioners continue to recommend colonics. It has become popular again, and many people seek colon therapy for detox and colon cleansing and to improve health and wellbeing.
Consult your primary care provider before having a colonic. People with certain conditions, such as diverticular disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, severe hemorrhoids, blood vessel disease, congestive heart failure, heart disease, severe anemia, abdominal hernia, gastrointestinal cancer, recent colon surgery, and intestinal tumors should not have a colonic.
Pregnant women should not have a colonic as it may stimulate uterine contractions.
Side effects of colonics may include nausea and fatigue after the session, which can last for several hours.
Although infrequent, complications may include perforation of the abdominal wall, electrolyte imbalance, and heart failure caused by excessive absorption of water.
After a colonic, the client is usually encouraged to take supplements containing friendly colon bacteria, called probiotics.
Refrain from eating prior to a session.
Look for a colon hydrotherapist certified by the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy.

(From the FAQ)
How does a Colon Hydrotherapy treatment compare to an enema?
When compared with an enema, Colon Hydrotherapy is a much more comfortable experience in which the patient’s dignity and privacy is maintained at all times. With Colon Hydrotherapy, the entire length of the colon (the large intestinal tract approximately 5 to 6 feet in length) is reached. It is many more times effective. According to learned centenarian Dr. Norman Walker, “One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas.”
MedPageToday — PHILADELPHIA — The risk of young-onset colorectal cancer varied by as much as 131% according to the length of chromosomal caps known as telomeres, data from more than 1,000 patients showed.
This reminds me of a class I took in college with religion and mental health history. Like now, it was back and forth with who had control of the mentally ill….so sad how people in the middle are treated because of other's conflict.

Having regular colon hydrotherapy sessions have really made me feel a whole lot better and cleared up my skin.
Hey great story. I got colitis when I was 21 and had it for about a year. I just had my first surgery in June 2008 and my second surgery to construct a J-pouch two weeks ago. Things are much better without colitis holding me back anymore. Hang in there!
Dennis.
P.S. I'm starting an ulcerative colitis vlog now. In the coming days check it out. UCVlog.com
Yeah, seriously I would have been more entertained getting a colonic irrigation than watching Katy Perry awkwardly warble around the stage and see X-tina rip off Peaches. And speaking of douching, Kristen Stewart's awkward acceptance speech makes me wonder why people pay to see a retard like this. And her “Best Kiss” schtick was the same thing she did last year. What a butt plug she is!

Thank you for this information on heart disease. This video presentation is helpful in understandng this misinformed subject. Phoenix Nutritional’s Heart Wise is an excellent supplement with great results.
I think in John Harvey Kellogg’s early years he did contribute to better health practices. He was eccentric, like some very brilliant people in history. I still would not throw all the good health practices that was brought about in his administrative years at Battle creek Sanatorium. That would not be a balanced opinion.

Hey Lady! I've had several colonics. I do believe in colonics just not often, of course. My experience w/them has been great. I had great colon therapist. I prefer it when they also massage your stomach and back. I had one who massaged my lymph nodes, also. I did not like going to have a colonic where I had to administer it myself. I'm not an expert nor have I ever received training on it so I would not go this route.I felt great afterwards. My first experience was when I did a 7 Day Super Cleanse which was 7 days of juice fasting which included a colonic on 6 of the 7 days. It was great! My skin was gorgeous however I would not do that again or recommend that to anyone unless they were really ill. I think getting a colonic or two each quarter or year is enough.
it’s called fecal matter fucks fake haha.

ALAS! I have the exact same issue from my 1979 built condo. The reason I need to replace it is b/c when I press the faucet in to shut off the shower or tub there is always some residual water still coming out. Cant quite get the tap to close. So I am going to try to remove the stem and clean it. If that doesn't work I will try to remove the whole cartridge and replace. Can someone tell me the type of stem or cartridge I need to buy? Home Depot or specialty plumbing store?
“My 97-year-old grandmother, who has lived in Hong Kong since '59, recently was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, and type II diabetes. It's my first visit to her since her diagnosis — it pained me to see her labored breathing, and her swollen feet. I accompanied her yesterday on her first trip to a government-run, geriatric day hospital.
First, let me thank you for producing this video. It has been most informative. I have been concerned/worried about my recent diagnosis of diastolic heart failure. I’m on a beta blocker and ACE inhibitor combined with small amount of diruetic. So thank you for putting my mind at ease with the new strides in heart failure care. Many changes have been made since my parents and sibling died of CAD and strokes. Keep up the good work??
— Here’s my question — exactly what are we recommending as “aggressive antifungal therapy?”
Ray, while Dr. Bauer may not be comfortable recommending “anything”, I can certainly tell you what constituted “aggressive antifungal treatment” for me and my situation:
I tried virtually every natural antifungal (except for wormwood but more on that later) and I found that none were effective at resolving my advanced condition. Based on much personal research, I learned that prescription antifungals–prescribed at a much higher dose and for a longer duration than most doctors are comfortable prescribing–was the best treatment for advanced cases. So, I set out to find a doctor who would treat me, off-label, with Diflucan. It took several months of “interviewing” doctors, and I had to travel a few hundred miles for the initial office visit, but I finally found a doctor who was familiar with treating systemic candida, aka persistent intestinal dysbiosis. He started me on the lowest recommended dose (100 mg of Diflucan), but after an initial improvement, my symptoms returned within a few days, which he said is typical. I then went to a 200mg daily dose, then 300 and finally 400 before I saw significant improvement. It took 16 weeks of total treatment with diflucan, which is far more than most doctors use to treat fungal infections. The 16 weeks break down like this…3 weeks 400mg (followed by a 1 week break), 3 weeks 300mg (1 week break) 3 weeks 200 mg (one week break), and finally 3 100mg. I had one recurrence which was easily treated with 3 more weeks 100mg. One caveat: my liver functions were monitored during the treatment breaks to ensure that my liver was not being destroyed by the Diflucan, because it is a fairly toxic medications, perhaps on a par with HAART. However, like HAART, it should only be given short-term to resolve acute infections, but I digress…
I have been recovered for 1.5 years now, and my health has never been better. Discovering the proper treatment for this condition and finding a knowledgeable physician has been life-changing. As such, the whole ordeal is what opened my eyes to dissident views on HIV. Anyway, to get back on point, the high-dose Diflucan immediately improved my health. Within a month, I had regained almost all of the weight I had lost–over 30 pounds and I'm a naturally slim guy. I still lead a healthy lifestyle, but my physical tolerance to stress is now in the normal range, I'd say.
I should also state that I continued using colon hydrotherapy for several months after I recovered. It was the second most effective treatment, behind the Diflucan. I should also note that some people don't tolerate Diflucan well, but there are other Rx antifungals that might work, too. I firmly believe that patients who are long-time sufferers from systemic yeast problems (and that includes virtually all “AIDS” patients) WILL REQUIRE prescription antifungals to get well, and that should be our goal. ARVs seem to work well as antifungals, too, but to me, their numerous side-effects are far too risky–to say nothing of the political morass that their current use entails.
As for natural antifungals, I can recommend fresh, crushed garlic, without any reservations (beyond the unpleasant odor). However, wormwood is the most effective natural antifungal that I have used. Had I known of its efficacy earlier, I would have tried it before the Diflucan. For less severe cases, it may bring total recovery. One note of caution: it can be dangerous if used long-term. Also, you need to gradually increase your dosage to establish tolerance. I feel like total hell while taking it, but others seem to tolerate it much better and it does seems to be highly active against candida.
This is an interesting discussion and I am certainly glad that Tony has brought it to the forefront. I have much more that I'd like to add but that'll have to wait for another day. I hope my explanation gives you some insight, Ray, into what constitutes “aggressive anti-fungal treatments” because systemic candida is absolutely pernicious.
Kevin
Everyone keeps asking for SYMPTOMS! Of what? Heart disease? Perhaps you all are confused and think you want to know the symptoms of a HEART ATTACK. See my other video. Think high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, diabetes and weight gain….ALL possible SYMPTOMS of heart DISEASE.
Cellphones, Laptops, antibiotics, medical procedures, these are all available because of Capitalism.
The fact that you’re so young certainly works to your advantage, and it sounds like you’re pretty healthy. The most important things for you to do right now is: get regular exercise, quit chewing tobacco (the risk of heart disease and mouth cancer is high), watch your weight, manage the stress in your life, and generally live a healthy lifestyle.
Ahh yes. Another masterful report presented by my personal deity. I laughed so hard I almost had an abdominal hernia.
However, I think what Colbert was condemning was not the idea of virtual credit but the idea of marketing the virtual credit to the kids. Not to advocate for the company, but their target population is hardly tweens. It's those people who don't want to use credit cards online. If you think about it, it's actually not a bad concept. It's an interesting idea I'd actually like to see developed more before I'd jump in myself. If done right, I could imagine the service reducing the possibility of identity theft.
