painful hemorrhoidsCommon Questions About Hemorrhoids

I’m going to talk about something a little tasteless but very important today, and that is hemorrhoids, colonoscopies  and anal examinations.

Many people love to talk about fasting and cleansing, but when I bring up the topic of enemas, colonoscopy and hemorrhoids, many clam up as if I was talking about something horribly obscene.

But I will tell you what is REALLY obscene. Waking up with colon cancer because you either procrastinated getting checked or did not ever think about it. So let’s talk a little about hemorrhoids:

What Are Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are inflamed but typically existing blood vessels around the anus and lower rectum that extend under pressure, much like spider veins in the legs. The higher pressure and inflammation may result from straining too much to have a . Other contributive reasons can include being pregnant, heredity, aging, and chronic constipation and / or diarrhea.

Hemorrhoids are generally inside the anus or under the skin surrounding the outside of the anus. Many anorectal problems, including irritation, itching and swelling have similar symptoms and are incorrectly referred to as hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid flare-ups usually are not serious or terminal. In most cases, hemorrhoid symptoms should subside in just a few days.

What Are The Symptoms of Hemorrhoids?

Although many people have hemorrhoids, not everyone is going to experience symptoms. The most common sign of inner hemorrhoidal inflammation is bright red-colored blood within the fecal matter, on bathroom paper, or perhaps in the toilet. However, hemorrhoids may stick out from the anus outside the body, becoming inflamed and painful. This is whats called a protruding hemorrhoids.

Symptoms of external hemorrhoids may include unpleasant swelling or even a hard lump about the anus which results when a blood clog forms.

This problem is known as a thrombosed external hemorrhoids. Furthermore, too much straining, scrubbing, or washing around the anus could cause irritation with swelling and/or itchiness, which may produce a vicious cycle of symptoms. Draining mucus may also cause itchiness.

Both women and men commonly encounter hemorrhoids. About half of the populace get hemorrhoids by the time they are 50.

Hemorrhoids & Pregnancy

Females often go through hemorrhoids during pregnancy. Pressure of the unborn infant in the abdomen, in addition to hormonal changes, cause the hemorrhoidal veins enlarge.

These blood vessels are also placed directly under severe pressure throughout labor. For the majority of females, on the other hand, hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy are a temporary problem.

A thorough assessment along with appropriate medical diagnosis is essential whenever bleeding from your anus or blood within the stool lasts for longer than a few days at most. Rectal bleeding might be a symptom of other digestive diseases, including colorectal cancers.

The doctor investigates the rectum and anus to search for swollen blood vessels that reveal hemorrhoids and will also perform a physical rectal probe with lubricated sanitized gloves to feel for irregularities.

More detailed evaluation of the rectum for hemorrhoids requires testing with an anoscope, a hollow, lighted tube helpful for looking at internal hemorrhoids, or a proctoscope, useful for a more comprehensive examination.

To rule out other causes of intestinal bleeding, the doctor may examine the anus and inferior colon or all of the  colon through a colonoscopy. Sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy are diagnostic methods which also involve use of tubes of light inserted in the anus. I know that none of this sounds very inviting and, in truth, most of us tend to shun colonoscopy like the plague.

But, I must tell you dear friend, it is better to take a little discomfort and perhaps a bit of a hit on your pride NOW, than to have to deal with something as awful as colon cancer LATER. So, if you have not had a colon examination in more than five years, I recommend that you call your doctor and have one done asap – especially if you are over forty and have had frequent bouts with hemorrhoids.

Regular Juice Fasting can help to keep the body detoxified and the colon clean, which is a very strong preventive measure you can take against hemorrhoids and your health in general. :-)

Anti-Aging Fasting

Fasting is anti-aging because it rids your body of toxins, which impair your longevity health. In addition, it helps to control your weight, which is often an aging factor.

Fasting is the most efficient and effective way of detoxification.

What is fasting?

Fasting is voluntary abstinence from food and drink, except water, for an extended period.

Fasting is not starvation which is abstinence continued beyond your body’s nutrient reserves. In other words, starvation may exhaust your body’s stored nutrients to the point of presenting health hazards, while fasting is still “consuming” the nutrient reserves stored in your body. There is a big difference.

Fasting has many therapeutic benefits. Fasting accelerates the self-healing process of your body, thereby enabling your body to recover speedily from any disease. Fasting temporarily stops the continuing work of your digestive system, instrumental in reserving energy for your self-healing. Your body may now utilize the energy for self-healing, which otherwise normally might be expended on secreting digestive enzymes to break down the food for distribution of nutrients throughout your body.

Fasting slows down your by keeping your arteries young (often hardened by cholesterol, fats, inorganic minerals and fibrous tissues). Fasting facilitates the removal of accumulated substances that may damage cell functions, thereby slowing down your and extending your lifespan.

Fasting may alleviate your body pain and rid your body of drug dependence. Remember, longevity is often a drug-free life.

Fasting relieves the burden of not only your digestive tract, but also your liver and kidneys, which have to work extra hard to remove additives and toxins accumulated in your body through improper eating.

Fasting produces powerful detoxifying effects in your body not achievable by any diet, restricted or supplemented.

Fasting decreases your blood pressure by softening your blood vessels.

Fasting activates the immune system in your body.

Fasting removes the cause of any chronic disease you may have by removing the toxins, not just the symptoms, as in the case of medication.

Fasting facilitates you, if you are a smoker, to quit smoking during a fast.

Essentially, there is only one type of fasting: pure water fasting. is not fasting: it is not anti-inflammatory; only pure water fasting is. Vegetable or fruit fasting is not fasting: it is more of a healthful diet. Only pure water fasting is complete and total fasting, which has the capability to break down fat, abnormal cells, plaque, and even tumors. Pure water fasting is the most efficient natural method of detoxification.

How safe is fasting?

Fasting is both natural and safe. Your body system has the capability to fast, and your body has the ability to fast safely. Generally, it takes more than forty days to exhaust all the nutrients stored in your body. That is why in the Bible Jesus fasted for forty days. In general, your body will still have more than adequate reserves of proteins, fats, minerals, and vitamins to maintain its normal function during a fast. In fact, during a fast, your body conserves its muscle and lean body tissues.

For centuries, people have practiced fasting all over the world.

Animals instinctively fast when they are sick or wounded. However, humans in similar situations erroneously believe they need to eat to regain strength, thus making them even sicker and weaker.

To prepare for a fast, eat more vegetables and fruits prior to a fast. Reduce the consumption of meat, and refrain from eating any meat the day before a fast.

During a fast, your body naturally increases mucous production to wash away viruses and infected cells. It may even induce a slight fever to activate your immune system. Your body discharges toxins and chemicals through your skin, mucous membranes, liver, and kidneys. Due to hormonal and metabolic changes, you may feel slightly colder. That is natural and normal. Just keep warm to conserve your energy and to facilitate rapid elimination. One common phenomenon is dehydration through excessive loss of water. Drinking more water is recommended during a fast.

You no longer have any bowel movement after the first day. That, too, is normal.

During a fast, you need less sleep than usual. You are fully refreshed with from three to six hours of sleep. A fast is invigorating.

Remember, the more you fast, the less uncomfortable you will feel. Normal functioning of the body will resume upon removal of all causes of functional impairment.

On the first day, you feel pangs of hunger, and a white coating forms on your tongue. On the second day, you begin to feel gradual dissipation of hunger, and there is more white coating on your tongue. On the third day, you may feel complete disappearance of hunger and the clearance of coating on your tongue.

The first three days of a fast are most challenging. However, once the challenge is overcome, you are well on the way to rejuvenation of your entire body. A clear tongue and clean breath are a good indication that the cleansing is more or less complete.

The length of a fast depends very much on an individual. The following is just a general guideline: a one-day fast, as often as required, preferably weekly, for good maintenance; a three-to-four-day fast for general health and well being, several times a year; a two-week fast for complete internal cleansing, every year or so; and a three-week fast (or even longer) for curing a specific disease, under the supervision of a physician

Always consult your physician first if you go on a fast longer than three to four days. Stop the fast immediately if there is significant increase in physical weakness, or drastic drop in blood pressure.

A one-day fast is ideal for maintenance, but may not be too effective for deep cleansing. Regular fasting minimizes the risk of a disabling disease later in life, and is therefore anti-aging.

Lower Cholesterol Naturally

In some people, cholesterol levels in blood become too high. This is called high cholesterol or hyperlipidemia.

High levels of LDL cholesterol (so-called “bad” cholesterol) are considered a major risk factor for and stroke.

LDL cholesterol is thought to irritate the lining of blood vessels, stimulating atherosclerosis, commonly known as hardening of the arteries.

Although lowering LDL cholesterol and raising levels of HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol) has traditionally been the focus, factors related to free radical damage are drawing increased attention: Lipoprotein A is a relative of LDL cholesterol. It’s thought to be formed when there is free radical damage. Lipoprotein A may adhere to damaged blood vessels, eventually forming atherosclerotic plaques. Oxidized cholesterol is found in large amounts in fried and processed foods. Studies have found that oxidized cholesterol may increase the amount of atherosclerotic deposits on blood vessel walls.High cholesterol is usually treated based on total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and HDL cholesterol levels, plus the presence of additional risk factors for : A few tips on using natural products to lower cholesterol:

Talk with your doctor before starting any natural method to lower cholesterol.

Make your doctor knows what supplements you are taking. Fill out the supplement diary to bring to your next appointment.

Don’t discontinue any medication to lower cholesterol. Speak with your doctor if you have questions about your medication.

Vitamin B3, also called niacin, is used to lower cholesterol. Specifically, it appears to lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol.

Well-designed studies have found that niacin lowers LDL cholesterol by approximately 10%, lowers triglycerides by 25%, and raises “good” HDL cholesterol by 15% to 30%. Niacin also appears to significantly lower levels for another risk factor for atherosclerosis, lipoprotein A.

Niacin is available in prescription form and as a dietary supplement. The American Heart Association cautions patients to only use the prescription form of niacin.

Because of side effects, niacin should not be used to lower cholesterol unless under the supervision of a qualified health practitioner.

Niacin can increase the effect of medication or cause nausea, indigestion, gas, diarrhea, gout, and worsen peptic ulcers, or trigger gout, liver inflammation, and high blood sugar.

The most common side effect of high-dose niacin is skin flushing or hot flashes, which is caused by widening of blood vessels. Most people only notice this when they initially start taking niacin. The flushing may be lessened by taking niacin with meals.

Although high doses of niacin showed promise in combination with drugs to lower cholesterol (called “statins”), there are concerns that combining them could result in a potentially fatal condition called rhabdomyolysis. They shouldn’t be combined unless under the close supervision of a physician.

There is some research suggesting that artichoke leaf extract (Cynara scolymnus) may help to lower cholesterol.

Artichoke leaf extract may work by limiting the synthesis of cholesterol in the body.

Artichokes also contain a compound called cynarin, believed to increase bile production in the liver and speed the flow of bile from the gallbladder, both of which may increase cholesterol excretion.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled German study found that 1,800 mg of artichoke extract per day for six weeks significantly lowered total cholesterol by 18.5% compared to 8.6% in the placebo group and lowered LDL cholesterol by 22.9% compared with 6% in the placebo group. The ratio of LDL to HDL decreased by 20% in the artichoke group compared with 7% in the placebo group. There were no adverse effects associated with artichoke use.

A meta-analysis looked at randomized controlled trials for artichoke extract for high cholesterol. Two trials involving a total of 167 people met the quality criteria. One trial found artichoke significantly reduced total cholesterol after 42 days of treatment. The other study found artichoke significantly reduced total cholesterol in a subgroup of patients with total cholesterol levels of more than 230 mg/dl.

Adverse events were mild, transient and infrequent. Larger clinical trials over longer periods are needed. Read more about artichoke

Soluble fiber appears to reduce LDL cholesterol by reducing cholesterol absorption in the intestines. Soluble fiber binds with cholesterol so that it is excreted.

Soluble fiber can be found as a dietary supplement, such as psyllium powder, or in foods such as: Oats, barley, rye
Legumes (peas, beans)
Some fruits such as apples, prunes, and berries
Some vegetables, such as carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, yams

Five to 10 grams a day of soluble fiber has been found to decrease LDL cholesterol by approximately 5%.

The FDA allows soluble fiber products to indicate on the label that they are “heart-healthy”.

Plant stanols and sterols (such as beta-sitosterol and sitostanol) are naturally-occuring substances found in certain plants. Stanols are also found as dietary supplements or are added to margarine, orange juice, and dressings.

Research suggests that plant stanols and sterols may help to lower cholesterol. They are similar in structure to cholesterol and may help block the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines.

Studies have found that stanols significantly reduced total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, but had no significant effect on HDL cholesterol or triglycerides.

Stanols and sterols appear to enhance the effects of other methods to lower cholesterol. In studies, people taking the statin drugs to lower cholesterol had an additional improvement in their cholesterol levels with stanols/sterols.
